Rare Customized Quarter Repeater P. Le Roy Pocket Watch. France, Circa 1880

Very rare customized quarter repeater P. Le Roy pocket watch, made in France circa 1880 an in very good condition. The customization consists of the rear glass cover, replaced to be able to see the rare machinery.The watch works really fine and mounts key wound movement. It is a very special article, with gold casing and hallmarks we can see the eagle-head-shaped mark in the crown and silver dial. The dial shows a really uncommon design, with a small top window which shoes the hour in digital format, and two hands for the minutes and the seconds. A small plate shows the name P. LE ROY at the 12 position. Probably, the rear cap was originally made of gold but in some moment it was replaced by a glass cap which lets us see the movement. As well as for its peculiar design, this watch also stands out for its rare quarter-repeating movement. In order to start it, the user must lift, turn and press the top of the crown, and then return it to its original position. This very rare customized quarter-repeating P.
