Amazing Longines 18K Gold Pocket Watch. Switzerland, Circa 1920

Amazing antique Longines 18K gold pocket watch made in Switzerland and with a striking design. The watch works fine and stands out for its beautiful Art-Deco appearance: the front and rear caps show an engraved motif with flashes of light emerging from the bottom, and two top horizontal bands with scrolls and vegetal symbols. The rear cap also includes two beautiful intertwined initials, AG. The white dial has black Arab numerals and Breguet-style hands, together with the brand name Longines at the 12 position. Outside the three caps show a polished finish, while inside they are matt. The inner side of each cap has the corresponding hallmarks, the Longines logo and the serial number 2903651. The dustcap is decorated with hand-engraved medals which stand for the prizes awarded to the brand in different events. The movement has the LONGINES name engraved in the plate and the mentioned serial number too. Longines History Longines is a watch manufacturing company that started out in the half of the 19th century, in a small workshop founded by Auguste Agassiz in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. Agassizs nephew, Ernest Francillon, developed the business and chose the Longines brand name and the logo depicting a winged hourglass. This logo is the oldest current trade mark of the World Intellectual Property Organization. In 1867 Longines made their first movement and in 1868 they launched a movement that could be winded up by turning the watchs crown, so there was no need of a key. The firm has been official timekeeper in fourteen Olympic Games and in many sport events. Today Longines is part of the Swiss Swatch group.
