Gorgeous Silver Verge Fusee Pocket Watch. James Cowan. Edinburg, Scotland, Circa 1760
Gorgeous silver verge fusee pocket watch by James Cowan, made in Edinburg, Scotland circa 1760 and in amazing condition. As well as being a beautiful old-time piece, the watch is in excellent condition. Both cases are silver; they do not have hallmarks, but they have been professionally tested in order to guarantee its quality. The outer case bears a motif, which seems biblical, in relief, in which appears a group of four figures guarded by an angel. It is a very beautiful image, made in detail and in very good condition. In the central part there are two figures that seem to be shaking hands or receiving and giving something to the other figure. The dial is made of white porcelain and has Breguet hands and black Roman numerals, all wonderfully preserved. The inner box, which stores and protects the movement, is made of smooth silver, and is also in good condition. It fits perfectly in the outer case. The movement is gorgeous too, full of scrolls and openwork details and with the manufacturer’s name, James Cowan - Edinburg, engraved by hand with a lovely cursive lettering; it is the name of an Scottish watchmaker active between 1744 and 1781. It is accompanied by the serial number 251.
This gorgeous silver verge fusee pocket watch by James Cowan will stand out as part of the best collection.
