Rosskopf Pocket Watch

Beautiful pocket watch made in the early 1900s by W. Rosskopf & Cie (Vittori & Cie, La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland). Its movement and spring system are based in those designed by prestigious maker Georges Frederic Roskopf who invented the popular worker man watch in the second half of the 19th century. This pocket watch only cost 20 francs, an amount similar to that earned by a worker after a labors week: hence its name. Rosskopf watches were a real revolution in those times, as they not only popularized something considered a luxury item but also incorporated the crown spring system, substituting the classical (weaker and more uncomfortable) key system.This lovely watch bears the manufacturers signature in the face, the dustcap and the movement. The dustcap and the movement also bear an engraved inscription: GARANTIE ANTIMAGNETIQUE, and a logo depicting a seven-petal flower. In the dustcap we can also see five medals symbolizing the ones awarded to the manufacturer in different exhibitions and events. The movement is delicate and highly appealing, and shows the logo engraved in the metal. We can also distinguish some rubies for its perfect operation.The watch is equally beautiful inside and outside. At the front we can see the bare face with elegant Roman numbers and delicate filigree hands made of coppery metal. This part is framed by a metal ring decorated with nicely performed hand-made vegetal engravings. The rear is also decorated by hand, in this case with an embossed motive depicting a steam locomotive in a railway station, in a mountain landscape. The watch has been revised and adjusted and works perfectly, being a functional and practical item that joins utility and aesthetical interest.This wonderful piece will be a great gift for a smart gentleman who can appreciate the beauty and historical interest of ancient watches.Measurements: Width: 52 mm.
