Impressive valve record player boasting a fully retro style and aesthetics, original from the 1950s. This is a Teppaz record player, a brand that became immensely popular in France in the mid-20th century. The models name is Oscar; this is the 2nd generation of the model (there is another less-evolved one), probably the companys most successful launching. The record player is a portable model that comes in an attractive suitcase outside covered by black leather and red lining, in excellent condition. The motor has been cleaned and adjusted and nowadays the record player sounds wonderfully. It can play every record formats: 16, 33, 45 and 78 rpm. Beside the turntable, on the white bakelite base we can see the embossed brand logo: a red T with the market name TEPPAZ inside. The company was founded in Lyon, France by Marcel Teppaz in 1931 to assemble radio equipment. During the war the firm was closed and Teppaz entered the army, where he was captured by the enemy. He managed to escape and created a new firm that grew rapidly, becoming the leader company in the French sound reproduction market during the 50s and the 60s. The Oscar record player that we can see in these photographs was the main responsible of the firms success and expansion: more than 1million units were sold in eleven countries. The record player boasts a compact, comfortable and attractive design and provides an excellent sound too. The electric motor can operate at 220V so no transformer is needed. At the bottom left corner, just by the regulation wheels we can see the model name OSCAR printed in red lettering. The brand logo is also embossed on the needles head. The inner white color of the device makes a great contrast with the red and black lining, creating a very attractive and charming design. This Teppaz record player is still a high-quality article, made by a brand whose prestige transcended borders in the 60s.
