Eucharistic Set, 19th Century

Luxurious and spectacular French Eucharist set composed by chalice, paten, tray and two cruet stands. This item dates from the late 19th century and is made of enameled solid silver, precious stones, carved glass and golden metal. The chalice is a striking piece, made of sterling silver and with hand-made enamel medals at the cup and the base. The enamels are impeccable, with no flaws at all and boasting bright and lively colors, just like when it was made. The chalices design is really spectacular, with a silver filigree coat covering it from the cup to the base.In the cup we can also see three original 0.75 carat rubies, and at the base there are six 0.90 carat rubies more, with a total of more of 7 and a half carats. On the other hand, the node is adorned with five beautiful amethysts. This richness is perfectly matched by the wonderful enameled scenes located in both parts. At the base we can see three scenes of Jesus Chriss life: the Birth, the Baptism and The Crucifixion. Between them there are three symbols: the Sacred Heart, the nails and the crown of thorns and an image of two birds drinking from a chalice (an old symbol related with the sacred that was already used by ancient Christians in the catacombs).At the cup there are three images more depicting Saint Joseph, Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. The chalice is entirely made of solid silver and has hallmarks in all of its parts. The paten is also made of silver and bears a delicate engraved decoration with Jesus Christs monogram, IHS, in the center. The set includes two carved glass and golden metal cruet stands with enameled rosettes at the base, and a golden metal tray (also decorated with enamels) designed to carry the articles. All these pieces can be stored in a black case inside lined with red felt.
