Large Silver Monstrance, XIX Century.

This impressive gold-plated silver monstrance is a highly remarkable piece because of its big size, quite rare in this kind of items. It is 83 centimeters high or 32,5 inches, and is a very attractive article, manufactured in high detail. The silver bears some hallmarks in different parts that testify for the origin of the monstrance (France, 19th century) and its quality. It is a beautiful silversmith item and a wonderful antique in great condition. All its parts are impeccable and the monstrance even has the piece designed to hold the Blessed Sacrament inside the ostensorium, known as lunette or luna.The hand-engraved decoration that embellishes the noble metal draws our attention for its careful making. At the monstrances base we can see the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God, a symbol of Jesus Christ) at the front, while at the back there is a radiant triangle surrounded by clouds that symbolizes God Father. The node that rests between the base and the shrine is decorated with the Sacred Heart at the front and the Tablets of the Law at the back. Just over the node stands the shrine, surely the most remarkable part of the monstrance, supported by two charming putti heads (angel boys). The ostensorium, the glass capsule designed to store the Blessed Sacrament, is surrounded by the classic silver sunrays.Under the shrine we can see a baroque engraved motive depicting wheat stalks and grape bunches, symbols of the Eucharists main elements: bread and wine. Crowning the piece we can see a majestic and stylized Latin cross. The monstrance bears the French silver hallmarks (a profile of Minerva goddess) and the silversmiths marks in different parts. The item comes in its original case, a wooden box lined inside of brown satin and that opens vertically.This amazing silver monstrance is a piece worthy of the best museum of sacred art.
