Silver Chalice and Paten, XIX Century

Attractive sterling silver chalice and paten set made in France in the 19th century. These pieces come in their original case, something that has surely helped to preserve them in the excellent condition they currently boast. Both pieces bear hallmarks that testify for the origin and quality of the silver they are made of. The set is very decorative and smart, showing off a sober and refined decoration that turns it into an item of timeless beauty. The chalice bears hallmarks at the base and the cup, while the paten also has its corresponding marks engraved in the metal.The chalices base is wide and circular in shape. It is decorated with a simple diamond pattern. The edge bears a fringe composed of gold-plated triangles. The hallmarks are engraved at the base. At the point where it connects with the base, the stem opens creating a motive of leaves that rest delicate on it. Over these leaves there is a small secondary node made up by three circular moldings; the main node is just over it. This node boasts a flattened spherical shape, divided in segments. Over it, the stem opens again in the shape of stylized leaves that support the gilded-silver cup.On the other hand, the paten boasts the same simple decorative beauty as the chalice it comes with. Its concave side is completely flat, with no adorns at all. The convex side has gold-plated edge and has an engraved geometrical motive in the center: a four-petal flower inside a series of concentric circles. The flower is decorated with schematic decorative details symmetrically disposed, in the shape of medieval shamrocks. Near the golden edge we can see the same contrasts that were engraved in the chalice. The whole set can be stored into a cardboard case covered outside by black material and inside lined of red felt.This amazing religious set is bound to show off its beauty in the noblest display cabinet.Measurements: Chalice: Cup: 95 mm/3.7 in. diameter.
