French Crucifix of Foot, XIX century

This wonderful golden metal crucifix was made in France in the 19th century and has survived to our days in excellent condition, though it is more than one hundred years old. It is a beautiful piece. The crucifix is 57 cm high and is an appealing article due to its big size and lovely decoration. The article is composed of a stylish cross that stands on a smart base, and at the top we can see a classic figure of crucified Christ, harmoniously performed.The base where the cross stands on is rectangular in shape. It stands on four small engraved curved legs and is adorned with nice flame-shaped Renaissance-style moldings. The front side of the base bears a screwed medal with the Lamb of God (symbol of Jesus Christ) engraved in the metal. Over the base there is a cup-shaped piece that supports the cross, making up an airy and elegant design.The top of the crucifix is the most appealing and important part of the piece. It shows a figure of crucified Christ, a sculpture made of golden metal too. The figure is harmonious and its proportions are balanced, boasting a great realism in the engraving of the muscles and the limbs. Over Jesus Christs head we can see the classic parchment-shaped plate with the inscription INRI, meaning the Redeemer is the King of the Jews. Surrounding the top of the cross we can see a series of metal rays that symbolize Jesus Christ as the Light of the World.Any lover of religious and sacred antiques will appreciate this ancient French crucifixs beauty and harmony.Measurements: Width: 22 cm/8.6 in.
