Beautiful Antique chalice made of solid silver and gold-plated metal. This is an ancient piece of sacred art manufactured in France in the 19th century. The chalice comes with a fine paten, also made of solid silver. The set comes in its original case and stands out for its decorative beauty. The chalice is profusely decorated with solid silver engraved motive. In spite of being quite old, the set has survived to our days in very good condition. The chalice is composed of a gold-plated metal stem and a sterling silver cup, also finished in gold. The top engraved fringe and the medals that decorate the base are also made of sterling silver. Their silvery finish makes a fine contrast with the gold surface of the rest of the piece. The medals depict the four evangelists and are connected by a fringe similar to the one at the top, engraved with grape bunches and fig leaves, also of solid silver. The symbols depicted in the medals (a bull, an eagle, a lion and an angel) correspond to the evangelist and are performed in a neo-Romanesque style, with a simple and expressive aesthetic feel full of charm and beauty. Each symbol comes with a book that contains the engraved initials of the evangelists names: Saint Matthew, Saint Mark, Saint Lucas and Saint John. From the base grows the gold-plated metal stem, delicately adorned with subtle engravings and with the node decorated with schematic images of reeds. The silver cup bears some hallmarks outside that testify for its quality and origin. The paten that comes with the chalice is also made of sterling silver; it bears its corresponding hallmarks and is embellished with an engraved Greek cross. The case that protects this set is covered of red velvet inside. It preserves the original brass handle and locks and is in very good condition. This chalice and paten set is a very ancient and beautiful piece. Measurements: Chalice: Width: 5.1 in/13 cm. Height: 8.8 in/22.5 cm. Paten: Diameter: 29.2 in/11.5 cm.
