Set of Vases for Eucharistic Use of Great Beauty. Late 19th Century

This extremely beautiful cruet set is surely a remarkable piece because of its ancient age and delicate design. It is composed of two twin cruets for Eucharistic use, presented on a fine golden brass tray decorated with engraved motives. The cruets date from the late 19th century and are made of golden brass and glass, boasting a stylized and decorative design. They come in their original protecting case, a solid box with a top handle perfect to store the set and carry it comfortably. One of the cruets is designed to contain the wine used during the Eucharist, and the other to contain the water to mix them into the chalice.The cruets are shaped like jars, with a convex body made of carved glass. Their bases are ample and semispherical, and the glass narrows upwards to create a slim and nice bottleneck. The glass recipients stand on brass conic bases, with a wide bottom that provides the cruets with stability. Each piece has a lovely brass handle molded in the shape of a flowery branch and wielded to the brass rings that surround the glass recipient, and also to the lid. The lids bear small hinges that let the user lift them to refill the cruets; they are decorated with a nice classic engraving and a small central crowning piece.The tray to carry the set is elliptical in shape, with a wavy edge decorated with engraved motives. This decoration is floral-style and is shaped like a fringe; it depicts schematic fig branches with leaves, flowers and grape bunches. In the center of the tray there are two cylindrical protrusions designed to fit the cruets bases in, so they can be safely carried. The case where this wonderful glass and brass set is stored is outside covered by black faux leather, while inside it is lined with red felt.
