Beautiful Solid Silver Chalice and Paten Set with Embroidered Palia. France, XIX Century

Antique Eucharist set composed of a sterling silver chalice and paten and a pall (starched liturgical cloth that protects the chalice and the paten). The set comes from France and is quite ancient as it was made in the 19th century. The chalice is quite elegant and remarkably stylish, and so is the delicate embroidery of the pall. The chalice and the paten boast a classy engraved decoration made up by simple vegetal-inspired motives. Both pieces bear their respective hallmarks for antique French solid silver, that testify for the silvers quality and origin. The chalice bears the hallmarks on the cup and on the base. The chalice shows off a lovely elegant designs, quite stylized and contemporary but classic. It is made of gold-plated silver with lobed base, slim stem and narrow cup. The base is shaped as a six-petal flower and is quite ample; it is decorated with symmetrical vegetal-inspired engraved motives accompanied by Greek crosses with lobed ends. It is cone-shaped and narrows softly at the top until joining the stem; this part bears a central node and is decorated with engraved circles. Over the stem we can see the beautiful cup, with the silver surface boasting a matt finish over which the shiny engraved flowers stand out. The cups edge is also shiny and polished, just like the inside. The edge bears the hallmarks corresponding to this part of the chalice. The paten also bears hallmarks and boasts a circular engraved fringe as its only decoration. This fringe is composed of fine classical volutes, engraved using a pointillist technique and framing the inscription IHS, the monogram that identifies Jesus Christ. The set is accompanied by a gorgeous antique pall, made of golden yellow linen and with a magnificent image of the Lamb of God embroidered in the center.
