Magnificent Set of Chalice and Silver Paten in Original Case. France, XIX Century

This classy and discreet silver chalice set is a very antique article that was made in France in the 19th century. In spite of being more than one hundred years old, both pieces are in amazing condition. They come in their original protecting case that surely has contributed to their surviving to our days so well preserved. Both the chalice and the paten are made of solid silver and bear hallmarks they are also embellished with a delicate engraved decoration that provides them with beauty and character. The chalice is a sober and balanced piece with a discreet decoration that turns it into a classy article. It has a circular conical-shaped base that joins the stem in a subtle and soft way, creating a nice transition between both parts. At the bottom we can see an enameled cross-shaped detail with lobed ends and a two-shaded finish: deep blue and golden. The conical base bears several schematic and simple engraved motives that depict a grapevines leaves and grapes (symbolizing the Eucharistic wine). Around the motives, the background is decorated with tiny engraved stars the cup bears this decoration too. The central node and the cup are decorated with the same engraved grapevine-inspired motives of the base. The chalice bears several contrasts that indicate the silver pieces origin (France) and the silversmiths name. The paten shows a simple decoration depicting a stylized Greek cross surrounded by fine vegetal-inspired details and fringes. On the other hand, the case is rectangular in shape and is outside covered by black faux leather, and inside by red velvet. Is in great condition and preserves the original brass handle and shutting hooks. As gorgeous as elegant, this silver set is bound to belong to a great collector of religious antiques.
