Sober and elegant chalice and paten set made of gold-plated silver and metal. This set comes from France and was manufactured in the 19th century; it is in great condition, remaining as gorgeous as the first day. Both the paten and the chalices cup are made of sterling silver, while the rest of the piece (the stem and the base) are made of gold-plated metal. The Neo-Gothic design of the set turns it into an evocative, timeless and charming article. The paten and the chalices cup bear the hallmarks that guarantee the silvers origin and quality: a profile portrait of Minerva goddess (the French silver hallmark) and a mark with the initials FT and a sun between them (the silversmiths mark). The chalice has an ample lobe-shaped base. It is conical in shape, narrowing upwards to form the stylized stem. This piece combines lean and gold-plated metal to create a beautiful composition. The base bears classic motives and fringes and is embellished with three medallions depicting Virgin Mary with the Sacred Heart, Saint Joseph with the flowery branch that identifies him and Jesus Christ as the Sacred Heart himself. Between the images we can see a lovely fringe with engraved reeds and their leaves. The stem has two nodes: a smaller and simpler just over the base and a bigger one on top of it, decorated with the same fringe of the base and with a monogram that contains the letters M and A. Over this main node we can see the silver cup, a piece that stands out for its sobriety. Just like the rest of the chalice, this part is decorated with a fringe of reeds and leaves too. The paten is quite simple and matches the chalices sober design: its only decoration is a Greek cross engraved in the center and surrounded by two concentric circles.
