Awesome liturgical ciborium more than one hundred years old, made in the early 20th century and in very good condition. The ciborium was designed to preserve the consecrated Hosts for the Eucharist and is made of two materials: sterling silver and golden brass. The cup is made of silver and bears the hallmark with the proportion (0,800) engraved in its outer side. The rest of the piece, as stated before, is made of brass with its surface fully decorated with fine classic motives that provide it with a great elegance. The ciboriums base is quite ample and shows a circular shape. It is embellished with a nice fringe of tiny engraved motives. At the center, the base shows the same decoration as the rest of the piece: groups of shapes composed of symmetrical volutes that repeat all over the surface, creating a classical-inspired design. The base also bears an engraved inscription in a stylish cursive lettering: Roma 1909. This detail indicates the approximate year of manufacturing, though it s probably when the ciborium was bought or given as a gift. Over the base stands the ciborium stem with two decorative nodes. The lower node is small in size and is part of the stems base. The central and main node is bigger and looks like an upside-down bell. Over this node stands the cups base, also made of brass and showing the same decoration as the base. The silver cup is resting into the base and is covered by a lovely engraved-brass lid crowned by an elegant cross with lobe-ended arms. Measurements: Width: 3.5 in / 9 cm. Height: 7.8 in / 20 cm. Ciboriums Weight: 275 g. Silvers Weight: 56 g.
