Fantastic Solid Silver Chalice with Paten and Case. France, Late 19th Century

This lovely sterling silver chalice is a simple and elegant piece, with a sober and discreet design that turns it into a timeless and beautiful piece. The chalice was made in France in the late 19th century and remains in wonderful condition. It comes with a delicate paten, also made of sterling silver, and the whole set can be stored in the antique case that comes with the piece. Probably the case, although it's antique, is not the original bacause it's 1 cm larger than the chalice. The chalice is made of gold-plated silver with hallmarks and is decorated with fine enamels that enhance its beauty. The enamels are in great condition and its delicate making reveals the hand of a skillful miniature artist. The chalices base is ample and circular, and is decorated with the mentioned enamels. These are four circular pieces surrounded by a gold-plated silver ring and painted in different colors: dark blue, grey, pink, white, gold The enamels depict the members of the Sacred Family: Saint Joseph, Virgin Mary and Jesus. This one is portrayed in two ways: in a blessing attitude and in the Crucifixion. The four pieces are really delicate and performed in detail; they are also very well preserved, with no cracks or signs of wear. From the base emerges a cylindrical stem, flat and with a central node. The node is composed of four identical pieces disposed in four symmetrical and opposite directions. This element provides the chalice with a curious medieval style. Over the node we can see the stylized cup, decorated with horizontal stripes of plain and textured silver. All the chalices parts, and also the paten, bear hallmarks that testify for the pieces quality. The paten is made of silver the top side is gold-plated and the bottom side is plain. Its only decoration is a circular Greek cross engraved in the center. The storing case is quite ancient and is covered by red velvet inside and black faux leather outside.
