Nostalgic small-sized pocket via crucis made of authentic leather and with silver-plated metal images (medals) depicting the 14 Stations of the Cross. The via crucis dates from the mid 20th century and is in good condition. It preserves all the medals and the leather looks good, showing only small signs of the trace of time that provide it with charisma and authenticity. The whole piece is beautiful and is delicately embossed, being a lovely sample of religious artisanal work. Via Crucis means Way to the Cross in Latin. It is also called Stations of the Cross and refers to a series of images depicting Jesus Christ on the day of his crucifixion and also to the prayers Christians say when contemplating those images. The images can be pictures, sculptures o personal belongings just like the piece that appears in the photographs. The tradition of covering the Stations is very ancient and Virgin Mary is said to visit the original places every day after her Sons death. The name Stations dates from the 15th century, when William Way wrote about his pilgrimages to the Holy Land. This delicate via crucis is composed of seven light-brown natural leather pieces. The pieces are connected making up a fold-out set. Each piece is decorated with two silver-plated medals on their respective black squares. The medals depict images of the Stations and are inspired in classic pictures. They are lovely and show a great attention to detail. At the top of each leather piece there is an embossed cross, and under each medal we can see a Roman number for the Station. At the back of the first leather piece we can see a fine metal cross depicting a wonderful Crucified Christ; when the set is closed, this piece acts as a books cover. For its ancient age and its charm, this leather and metal via crucis deserves to become part of a complete collection or religious articles. Measurements: Closed: Width: 2.7 in / 7 cm.
