Beautiful Solid Silver Contrasted Chalice in Original Case. France, 1930's

This original chalic was made of sterling silver and comes from France. It was made in the 1930s and comes with its paten, also made of silver. Both pieces come in their original storing case. The chalice boasts a basic and balanced design, with the rationalist and geometrical style that characterized the decorative trends of the period. Both the chalice and the paten bear hallmarks in all their parts. The outside of the chalice shows off a delicately irregular surface. The silver has been carefully hand-shaped in order to create a water-like finish, full of subtle reflections. Otherwise the piece lacks any other decoration except for the simple Latin cross embedded in the base over a flat bone piece. Over the conical base there is a remarkable hexagonal node composed of two bone pieces with a silver element between. The cup is ample and low, with flat inner surface and two hallmarks by the edge. The silver is delicately gold-plated all over the chalice. The paten is also a beautiful piece. It is made of gold-plated silver with hallmarks and its center is decorated with a lean-silver Greek cross. The cross contains a straight Latin cross with the letters P and A W (alpha and omega, beginning and end). Both items can be stored in their amazing oak wooden case with inner red-felt lining. The case remains in wonderful condition and preserves the original hinges and suitcase lock. La patena es también una pieza muy hermosa. Ambas piezas se mantienen guardadas en un fantástico estuche de madera de roble forrado en fieltro rojo por su interior. El estuche está en muy buenas condiciones y conserva los cierres y las bisagras originales.
