This lovely embossed picture is a vintage artisanal work, made in Spain in the 1970s and in really good condition. The picture is made of silver-plated embossed copper and depicts an image of the Virgin of the Candelaria (Virgin of the Candle Light), Patron Saint of the Canary Islands. It has been carefully restored by a professional and framed with a sober and elegant golden-brown wooden molding. The picture shows off a great attention to detail and a remarkable perfection: it is an attractive piece with a very special vintage charm. The picture depicts an iconic image of the Virgin of the Candelaria with the Holy Child in her arms. The Virgin wears an ample cloak that covers her body from head to toes, and is holding a long candle with her left hand. The candle is directly related to the etymology of the image, whose name derives from the candle (the holy light that guides the faithful to redemption). The image is surrounded by an arch composed of light beams and flowery garlands. At the Virgins feet, the base she stands on is completely covered by delicate hand-embossed flowers. Under the flowers, in the middle of the picture there is a parchment with the hand-engraved inscription Ntra. Sra. de la Candelaria Patrona del Archipiélago Canario. The cloak that covers the Virgins body is wonderfully performed, with its lovely decoration of subtle flowers and volutes that imitate antique brocade with nice embossed motives. This embossed picture is a powerful and fine religious image, an evocative and classic work with strong decorative potential. Measurements: Width: 20.4 in / 52 cm. Height: 25.1 in / 64 cm.
