Magnificent Chalice and Paten in Solid Gilded Silver, made in France in 1860. Delicate religious piece with a poly-lobed and raised base with the following inscription on the rim: Chapelle du chateau de Charmont. Calice dont s'est servi Monseigneur Caeur. Évéque de Troyes. Donné à Mr. Truchy de la Huproye. 1860 (Chapel of the Castle of Charmont. Chalice that has served Monsignor Caeur, Bishop of Troyes. Donated to Mr. Truchy de Huproye. 1860). This is undoubtedly a very original piece, since it presents in each of the lobes some shields decorated in its interior with the elements of the Passion of Christ. We can see engravings with marked detail: the crown of thorns, the hammer and tongs, the Holy Cross with the letters I S, the whip... The use of this decoration is explicitly linked to the religious symbolism of this type of piece. The foot presents a geometric outline with octagonal rings, and in its central part a prominent knot of geometric vegetal forms to match the rest of the piece. It has rhomboidal cells on its faces decorated on the inside with four-petal flowers chiseled in the Neo-Gothic style. The part of the cup does not present decoration, although we find the marks of solid sterling silver with the French seal (Minerva), and the name of the goldsmith F*? which testifies to its origin. The paten, also in gilded silver, is characterized by its concave shape, with a flared or kicked cross, engraved on the outside as the only decoration. It is also engraved with the French stamps attesting to its originality. Magnificent piece in solid silver, with all its genuine contrasts and in very good state of conservation and aesthetic, which makes it a really wonderful piece. Also thanks to the inscription on the base we can date it in a simple way and know its incredible history.Magnificent religious piece full of history within reach of a great collector.Measures: 24 x 16 cm.
