Spectacular monstrance made of solid silver, dating from the 19th century. This beautiful piece has hallmarks in all its parts which show the silversmiths stamps. One of the stamps shows an elegant profile, in the style of a cameo, of somebody who seems to be Minervas head or some Roman deity. The silver is golden in some points and shows beautiful hand-engraved motives, depicting different symbols of the Catholic Religion. It is a big monstrance, higher than half a meter. Monstrances are pieces of the Catholic cult used to house the Sacred Host, which is placed into the gloria, a receptacle with glass door located at the top of the object. The gloria is in perfect condition and is surrounded by the classical silver rays, which symbolized the light or the world emitted by Christs Body. The monstrance is crowned by a Latin cross engraved with floral motives, and around the gloria we can see charming putti (baby angels) embellishing it. The place where the gloria is inserted is engraved with wheat stalks and bunches of grapes, which symbolize the bread and the wine of Eucharist (Christs Body and Blood). The top of the monstrance stands on a stem with a knot in the middle, engraved also with angels heads, stalks and bunches. The monstrance stands on a wide rectangular base. This base stands on four claw-shaped legs, and is engraved with different vegetal and abstract designs. The main body shows Christian symbols in each side: at the front we can see the Agnus Dei or Lamb of God, symbol of Jesus Christ, while at the rear there is a triangle surrounded by rays of light ant with the Greek omega letter (?) engraved, which stands for God as the beginning and the end of the whole Creation. On the left and the right we find again bunches of grapes, which symbolize wine as Christs Blood. The monstrance is in great condition and is a first-class and valuable religious antique, which with its beauty will enhance any collection of sacred art. Measurements: 260 mm width x 545 mm height.
