Gorgeous antique gold-plated silver chalice with embossed decoration and hallmarks in all its parts. The chalice stands out for its great beauty and its elegance, and remains in excellent condition. It comes from France, where it was made in the 18th-19th century. The chalices base and cup bear antique hallmarks that testify for its origin and period. Among other marks we can see the silversmiths hallmark with the initials J. & C. clearly engraved in the metal. There is also a mark depicting a rooster (corresponding to silver pieces dated from 1789 to 1809) and another one with a human foot (1774-1788). The chalices base is ample and circular in shape. The edge is decorated with embossed grape bunches that symbolize the Eucharistic wine and wheat stalks that refer to the bread. Between them there are engraved schematic pineapples and a lot of abstract decorative motives. The rest of the base is embellished with similar images and symbols, creating a harmonious and fine effect. At the front we can see a fine Latin cross too. Over the base, the stem bears several nodes. The one located just on top of the base bears a delicate flowery fringe engraved in the metal, while the most important node (located in the center of the stem) bears the same decoration as the base. This decoration is repeated at the cups base. The top of the cup is made of lean silver, with no decoration at all. This part of the chalice stands out for its fine and stylized design with a slightly flared edge. Its elegant decoration and high quality turn this antique chalice into an exclusive piece, as beautiful as timeless. Measurements: Cups Width: 3.15 in / 8 cm. Bases Width: 5.7 in / 14.5 cm.
