Large Antique Silver Monstrance, XIX Century.

Superb antique solid-silver monstrance, big in size and made in France in the 19th century. The monstrance is complete and comes with the original lunette and the storing case. It remains in great condition, boasting a glorious beauty. The monstrances base has four claw-shaped legs that support a pyramidal piece; this piece is profusely decorated with embossed volutes and bears the symbol of God, a triangle in the sky, engraved at the front side. Over the base, the stem that supports the top of the monstrance bear several nodes. One of them is circular in shape and is divided in wedges, while there is another one (most remarkable) on top of the first one which stands out for its outstanding decoration. It shows off two little angles made of gold-plated silver that protect a grape bunch (symbol of the Eucharistic wine) with their wings. Over them we can see a big group of wheat stalks with grape bunches between them. This group of stalks is located directly under the top part of the monstrance. This is the part designed to contain the lunette, the gold-plated solver and glass clip used for holding the Host in an upright position when exposed in the monstrance. The lunette is fitted into a cloud-shaped silver piece, decorated with small flowers. This piece itself is framed by many gold-plated silver beams that represent the flaming glory of the Blessed Sacrament. The whole piece is crowned by a fine Latin cross embellished by embossed volutes and vegetal motives. The monstrance can be stored and carried in its original case, a black-painted solid-wooden box with red-velvet inner lining.
