Delicate antique solid-silver chalice and paten set made in France in the early 20th century (circa 1900) and in excellent condition. The chalice is made up of a solid silver cup and a silgvered metal stem and base, all very well preserved. This piece boasts a neogothic-style design, quite simple and full of charm. The chalice and the paten come in their original old-time case and make up a high-quality set, so antique and boasting a simple and stylish beauty over which the years seem not to go by. The chalice bears different hallmarks that testify for the origin of the piece, engraved close to the cups edge. The cup is made of gold-plated lean solid silver and stands on a silvery-metal stem with ample circular base. The base is decorated with a fringe of stylized crosses. The stem has a central node with another engraved fringe and a small secondary node under it. The top of the stem opens up creating a lovely base with a delicate engraved fringe and a border with cut-schematic flowers; this base supports the gold-plated silver cup. The solid-silver paten is decorated with the acronym of Jesus Christ, HIS. It is crowned by a radiant Latin cross and has the symbol of the Sacred Heart engraved below. This is a hand-engraved decoration that stands out for its simple and pure lines. The paten bears four hallmarks that testify for the quality and origin of this amazing sacred-art set. The case where the set is stored is a rectangular-shaped box with an outer black-leather lining and inside covered by red velvet. The trace of time is reflected in the cases outer covering, but the piece is still perfectly able to protect and store the chalice and paten set. As delicate as stylish, this antique solid-silver chalice and paten set is a treasure bound to pass from one generation to the next. Measurements: Chalice: Width: 4.9 in / 12.5 cm.
