Antique solid-silver ciborium with hallmarks made in Spain in 1853 and in amazing condition. The ciborium draws powerfully our attention for the rare silver figure that crowns the lid. It is usual that these pieces are crowned by crosses, nevertheless, this fine ciborioum is adorned with a mysterious figure with Christian attributes, probably Jesus. The rest of the piece is made of lean silver, decorated only with delicate cord- and plait-shaped borders and a slim fringe engraved in the main node. The ciborium has an amplie circular base with different levels. It has decorative borders that separate the steps it is made up of. Close to the border we can see three interesting hallmarks engraved in the metal, related to the city of Madrid and with different inscriptions and motives. The first hallmark depicts a crowned shield over the number 53 (corresponding to the year of making); the second one contains the silversmiths name, V. PEREZ, and the third one shows a turret and again, the number 53. These hallmarks stand out for their wonderful condition. The ciboriums stem is carefully shaped and divided in different nodes; over them rests the ample cup. The lid is surely the most interesting and attractive part of this piece because of the figure stated before. This figure, probably an image of Jesus, depicts a man covered by a cloth that hides part of his face. In his right hand he is holding the Chalice and the Sacred Host and with the left one he holds a big stick, probably part of the Cross. This is a fascinating and intriguing figure, beautifully shaped and with a singular and special quality.Measurements: Width: 5.1 in / 13 cm. Height: 9 in / 23 cm. Weight: 490 g.
