Wonderful antique gold-plated solid-silver chalice dated in the late 19th century and with a gorgeous neo-gothic design. The chalice is accompanied by a solid-silver paten dated in the early 19th century 1818-1838) and made in Lyon, France. Both pieces come from France and make up a really beautiful set, more than one hundred years old; they bear the corresponding hallmarks that guarantee their quality and origin. The chalice boasts a very interesting decoration that practically covers the whole piece the gold-plated surface shows off a lot of engraved symbols and decorative motifs that dress the chalice up in an elegant and sumptuous way. The chalice has a lobed base, divided in sections by several lines in relief that go up the stem. These sections contain embossed motifs depicting the classic Eucharist symbols: wheat stalks and bunches of grapes. Over the base, the stem has two nodes: the top node is decorated with the stated symbols, smaller in size. Between the nodes the stem shows off a fine neo-gothic decoration composed of pointed traceries. Over the stem, the part which contains the gold-plated cup has been die-cut and results in a nice filigree work. Through the die-cut gaps we can see the lovely gold-plated finish that embellishes the silver cup. The cups base is decorated with wheat stalks, while the top edge is a fringe composed of bunches of grapes. On the other hand, the paten is a simple and sober piece; it is made of gold-plated silver too and its only decoration is the hand-engraved IHS monogram (which stands for Jesus Christs Latin name) crowned by a radiant cross. Every lover of religious arts and crafts will find an exclusive piece in this antique solid-silver chalice, accompanied by a fine paten and more than one hundred years old.
