Striking ecclesiastic set composed of an antique chalice with its solid-silver paten, in perfect condition and of outstanding beauty. Both pieces are dated in 1830; though being more than 150 years all, they are greatly preserved. The chalice is a historic piece with gold-plated-metal base and stem and solid-silver cup. The silver parts bear no hallmarks but we can guarantee the quality of the noble metal. At the base, the chalice bears a hand-engraved inscription in capital letters reading: Es Limosna del Licenciado Don Manuel Asas Venero Arcipreste de Toro, 1830 (It Is Alms from the Licenciate Mr. Manuel Asas Venero, the Archipriest of Toro, 1850). The chalices base is circular in shape, ample and made of lean metal. As the only decoration it bears two simple renaissance-style fringes. The stem is long and stylized, made of gold-plated metal too. It shows a turned shape with a central node decorated with a fringe composed of scallops inserted into pointed arches. The cup bears a lean silver base with a bulbous base, decorated with engraved stylized leaves. This base supports the cup itself, made of gold-plated silver and with no decoration at all. The antique paten that comes with the chalice is made of gold-plated silver too. It is a very simple piece, flat and with no engravings at all. The silver preserves the original gold-plated finish, though it is slightly worn for the trace of time and the use. Together with the historic chalice, the paten makes up a high-quality set of ecclesiastic handcraft, beautiful and original from the time. The fact that it was given as alms by a highly ranked priest testifies for its quality. Every collector of sacred art should be proud to own this awesome chalice, elegant and authentic as few can be.
