Antique Solid Silver Chalice with original case. France, XIX Century

Awesome antique solid-silver chalice and paten set, with the original storing box and in very good condition. The three pieces are dated in the 19th century and were made in France. Both the chalice and the paten bear hallmarks that testify for the silvers quality and origin. The set is in amazing condition: both pieces preserve the original gold-plated finish and show no traces of wear, bumps or dents. The chalice is a really striking piece, especially for its elaborate neo-Gothic design. It has an ample and beautiful lobed base whose shape combines star points and semicircular parts. It is decorated with embossed motives depicting crosses and stylized vegetal symbols. Among these motives we can also see a crown of thorns. The bases edge bears an oval mark containing the number 17118. The stem is of hexagonal section and is profusely adorned with vegetal motives, delicately engraved in the metal surface. It has two nodes, a smaller and simpler one and the main one. This last one is fully covered by embossed details depicting plants and flowers. On the other hand, the cup has a base composed of stylized leaves and vegetal motives similar to those at the base. The paten that comes with the chalice is also made of solid silver. It is decorated with a central engraving containing the acronym HIS (a Latin abbreviation of Jesus Christ usual in these pieces). As for the chalice, it bears the French silver hallmark and a diamond-shaped mark with the word CHEVRON inside. Both pieces can be stored in the original case, a wooden box covered of black leather outside and red velvet inside. Into the lid we can see a blue oval label with a golden inscription containing the goldsmiths name, TRIOULLIER Freres, and the address of their business in Paris.
