Very rare portable chalice and paten set made of solid silver with hallmarks and with hand-engraved decoration. The set looks sober and stylish; it is small in size and remains in great condition. The chalice and the paten come from England and are dated in 1855 both pieces bear hallmarks that indicate they were made in London in the stated year. The chalice boasts a sturdy and fine design with an ample circular base decorated with a hand-engraved vegetal-inspired fringe. The hexagonal-section stem bears a similarly-shaped node in the middle. On the other hand, the cup bears a fine engraved decoration containing the acronym IHC (standing for Jesus Christ); the paten shows off just the same decoration. This abbreviation is somewhat confuse, as the classic Latin acronym is IHS. This is a Greek abbreviation containing the iota, eta and sigma letters, the Greek version of the Latin acronym.
