Vintage Solid Silver Chalice. With Case. Spain, Circa 1950

Original vintage solid-silver chalice, made in Spain and dated in the middle of the 10th century (circa 1950).This is an amazing religious piece of art, in very good condition and completely made of solid silver. It bears hallmarks in all its parts, directly marked on the metal surface and clearly visible. The chalice comes with a fine paten, made of lean silver and decorated with a hand-engraved motif. It bears the same hallmarks as the chalice. Both pieces can be stored in the original case, designed to protect and transport the set. The chalice is a remarkable piece for its original design and stately look. It is made of lean silver, with no gold-plated finish or engraved decoration at all. Nevertheless, its fine design is enough to turn it into a really gorgeous item. The stem that connects the base and the cup is a particularly relevant part: hexagonal in section, it is composed of four stylized Latin crosses that create an intelligent design. The stem stands on a wide pyramidal base, also hexagonal in shape and decorated with a schematic hand-engraved crismon. Th solid-silve paten that comes with the chalice bears a hand-engraved crismon as its only decoration. It is an elegant detail composed of the Latin letters P and X (which make up the monogram of Jesus Christs name) one in front of the other. The Greek letters Alpha and Omega are disposed on both sides of the crismon. The overlapping letters create an interesting depth effect. Last but not least, the case where the chalice and the paten are kept is in very good condition. Its outside covering and inside red-satin lining are very well preserved, just like the chome-plated metalwork.
