Beautiful gold-plated silver chalice made in France, more than one hundred years old and in very good condition. The chalice is dated in the 19th century and comes with a paten, also made of solid silver and with hand-engraved decoration. The two items can be stored in their original antique case; it is quite well preserved, showing only some unimportant signs of the trace of time. The chalice boasts a lovely hand-engraved decoration at the base, consisting of three medals with Christian scenes and figures. It is a really magnificent piece that combines lean and gold-plated silver and shows off an outstanding beauty. The chalice and the paten bear a series of hallmarks that testify for their quality and origin. Both pieces bear the silversmith mark and the French silver hallmark, with the profile of Minerva goddess. If we turn the chalice upside down, inside the base we will see two sets of initials, M.E. and R.E., delicately engraved in the metal. The chalices base, circular in shape, is an elegant gold-plated silver piece decorated with a fine engraved fringe. As stated before, it also shows off three stately medals, containing different scenes. One of them depicts the Crucifixion, and the other two show images of Saint Joseph and Virgin Mary, both holding the Child in their arms. All the figures depicted in the medals are in lean silver and make a great contrast with the golden metal surface. Just by the medal with the Virgin we can see a small dent, which can be easily restored by a professional. Over the base, the node that adorns the stem shows off a bulbous shape and mixes lean and dotted sections. Over the node we can see the cup, decorated only with an engraved fringe similar to that of the base. The paten that comes with this striking piece of religious art bears a central engraved motive containing the acronym HIS (standing for Jesus Christ) and a vegetal-inspired fringe. As for the storing case, it is covered by black faux leather outside and lined with red velvet inside. Stylish, sober and really beautiful, this gold-plated chalice and paten set is an exclusive piece with a personal history behind. Measurements: Chalice: Bases Width: 5.11 in / 13 cm.
