Beautiful antique solid-silver chalice with hallmarks, made in Paris, France in the early 19th century (according to the hallmarks, between 1819 and 1838). The chalice is in great condition and stands out for its lovely decoration and high quality. It boasts a classic and stylized design with an elaborate decoration that combines religious symbols with a scene from the New Testament. The chalice comes with a gold-plated solid-silver paten, dated later (by the le 19th century). Both pieces are stored in an antique case, specially designed to protect and carry this type of liturgical sets. The chalices base is circular in shape. Its edge is decorated with three engraved flowers, separated from the rest of the piece by a simple fringe. Between the fringe and the stem we can see a scene of the Crucifixion with Virgin Mary at the feet of Jesus Christ. The other two images show a group of wheat stalks and some bunches of grapes, symbols of the bread and the wine used in the Eucharist. The Crucifixion scene is gorgeous and delicate, and was carefully engraved with full detail. Between the three images we can see groups of reeds, a plant that symbolizes the Christian faithful who drink from the waters of the Church. The node that adorns the chalices stem is decorated with more reeds, stalks and bunches of grape. At the bottom it shows a hand-engraved fringe of flowers and leaves of clear medieval inspiration. Over this node there is a smaller one, adorned with just a simple engraved fringe.Crowning the chalice we can see the gold-plated silver cup, supported by a base with openwork. The cups base shows the same allegorical motifs of the base and the node. The gold-plated silver paten bears the engraved acronym IHS, a crown of thorn framing it and an engraving of the Sacred Heart. On the other hand, the storing case is quite ancient and preserves a paper label with the address of the shop where the chalice was purchased, together with some handwritten inscriptions. With its timeless beauty and elegant style, this antique silver chalice will shine in a showcase full of valuable religious antiques. Measurements: Chalice: Bases Width: 6 in / 15.3 cm.
