Fine and antique gold-plated solid-silver chalice with its original paten, both in really good condition. This is an ecclesiastic set made in France circa 1900, boasting a hallmark with the E-L initials which belongs to the French goldsmith Edmond Lesage. The chalice and the paten show simple and stylish designs that turn them into timeless and singularly attractive pieces. The silver surface mixes different textures (a general matt finish with polished areas) which create a subtle and beautiful design that fills this set with charm. The chalices base is ample and conical in shape, with no decoration but a fine embossed cross with an engraved Chrismon (an acronym of Jesus Christs name with the Greek letters alpha and omega, symbols of the beginning and the end). The stem which starts in the center of the base has a circular central node and a smaller node underneath. The cup is a balanced part with neither any engraved decoration; it only shows a fine polished and shiny edge which makes a good contrast with the chalices general matt finish. There are two hallmarks in the edge: the Edmond Lesange mark and the one for antique French silver, containing the profile of Minerva goddess. If we turn the chalice upside down, at the bottom of the base we can see the following hand-engraved inscription: Ed. LESAGE Orfevre A PARIS, and the serial number 5689. On the other hand, the paten boasts a fine design (very similar to the chalices one) and mixes matt surfaces with shiny polished areas. The base is decorated with a beautiful hand-engraved baroque Chrismon framed by an elegant circular fringe. At the edge we can see again the French silver hallmark and the goldsmiths mark. Its simple and stylish look turns this antique gold-plated solid-silver chalice and paten set into an exclusive item, signed by a prestigious goldsmith and boasting a serene and classic beauty.
