Superb antique solid-silver chalice and paten decorated with real diamonds and a sapphire and a hallmark of the goldsmith Armand Calliat. The chalice is made circa 1890,and comes from France. Although the base bears a dedication dated 1941, this is not the date of the chalice's manufacture, since Armand Caillat died in 1901. Both pieces remain in excellent condition and display a sober and elegant beauty. Both the chalice and the paten bear the French silver hallmark and the goldsmiths mark containing the initials AC. The chalice shows a medieval-inspired compact designs, much to the taste of the artistic trends of the era; today it is still an imposing timeless piece with a remarkable charm. The chalices foot is ample and conical in shape. It is decorated with a hand-engraved Latin inscription: Calicem Salvataris Accipiam Et Nomen Domini Invocamo (I Accept the Chalice of Salvation and we Call Upon the Name of the Lord). At the front we can see a big embossed Latin cross decorated with twelve delicately carved real diamonds with diameters up to 5 mm. There is also a fine central sapphire that stands out for its bright blue color. The inner weight (located under the chalices foot) bears another engraved Latin inscription, in this case a dedication reading: In Te Domine Speram Non Confundar Aeternum (Lord, I trust in you. Do not let me remain eternally confused). The foots top end meets the chalices magnificent main node. The node itself is a wonderful piece of silverwork: a big sphere composed of silver interlaced bands with the winged symbols of the Four Evangelists (the lion, the eagle, the ox and the angel) standing in front, each one holding their Gospels. Over the node, the great cup of the chalice stands out for its big size and simple design. The chalice is accompanied by a solid-silver paten with hallmark, decorated only with a hand-engraved Chrismon (the acronym of Jesus Christs Greek name) flanked by the Greek letters alpha and omega. With its sober and rich design, this amazing antique solid-silver chalice with real diamonds and wonderful silverwork is a collectors item, worthy of inclusion in a great museum of religious art.
