Outstanding antique ciborium made of gold-plated silver and decorated with enamels, coming from Lyon, France and dated circa 1900. This is a beautiful item for liturgical use, with a superb design and decorated with delicate enamel pieces depicting the members of the Sacred Family. The ciborium bears the mark of Louis Guillat, a relevant French goldsmith belonging to the famous school of Lyon. As well as the enamels, the piece bears a lovely decoration of embossed silver filigree details that create a fine metal lace over the polished surface. The ciboriums foot is shaped as a flower composed of six pointed petals. Three petals are embellished with the mentioned silver filigree work, gorgeous and delicate, and the other three bear almond-shaped enamel pieces. One of them contains a portrait of Jesus Christ with the Sacred Heart and the others depict Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph (with his attribute, the flowery rod). Over the foot, the stem bears a main spherical node decorated with small circular enamels. Each piece contains a flower in different colors: two shades of blue, dark red and golden. The top of the stem is crowned by the ample cup. The cups base is a wonderful display of silver filigree work similar to that of the foot. This decoration is repeated all over the ciboriums cover, creating a truly baroque and elegant piece. Neaar the edge of the cup, the foot and the cover we can see the mark of Louis Guillat and the French silver hallmark. The cover is surmounted by a delicate cross with an intertwined circle. Every lover of religious goldsmith and antique silver piece will appreciate the beauty and complexity of this astonishing antique ciborium. Its delicate enamels, its lovely embossed decoration and the mark of the prestigious goldsmith that made it turn it into an exclusive, fascinating and very special piece.
