Gorgeous Antique gold-plated silver and enamel chalice made by Jamain & Chevron, with its original paten and in excellent condition. Both pieces bear the silversmiths hallmark (J&C) (Jamain & Chevrot), so we can date them between 1865 and 1879. This liturgical set comes from France and has survived to our days in optimal condition, as we can see in the photographs. Both the chalice and the paten are of Neo-Gothic style and bear a lovely embossed and engraved decoration. The chalice also boasts a wonderful enameled decoration depicting portraits of relevant religious figures. The chalices foot is lobe-shaped and bears three enameled images with bright colors that range from dark blue to turquoise, including details in dark reed, golden yellow, white The images are portraits of Jesus Christ, Saint Joseph (with the flowery rod) and Virgin Mary. Between the images we can see embossed reeds and long lance-shaped leaves that connect the foot with the stem, creating a soft and fine transition. The enamels are perfectly preserved, bright and complete. Under the image of Jesus Christ we can see a dark blue and red Maltese cross that marks the front side of the chalice. At the foot we can see the silversmiths hallmark and the mark of French solid silver. Jules Jamain and Eugène Chevron had their business at the 23 Rue Michel-le-Compte of Paris; the hallmark that we can see in these pieces was active from August 1865 to Septembre 1789. The chalices stem is decorated with main and secondary nodes. The cup that crowns this piece also bear enameled images depicting Saint Peter, Saint John and Saint Paul. They are all in wonderful condition, with bright fine colors that make a nice contrast with the silvers golden shade. Again, the cup bears the same hallmarks as the chalices foot. The paten bears these hallmarks too and shows off the IHS acronym inside an elaborate hand-engraved flower.
