Extraordinary Antique-ebony crucifix with a figure of Jesus Christ on a silver-trimmed wooden cross, made in Spain circa 1900. This wonderful article stands out for its excellent condition and for the detailed work of the artist who carved the figure on real ivory. It also comes with a CITES certificate, spanish legal document that certifies that the piece is an antique ivory piece. The figure is mounted on a solid-wooden cross, probably rosewood, very well preserved and with fine dark veneers. The wood bears a French-polish finish with a great satin glow that enhances its color and veneer. The figure of Christ is performed in detail. The faces aching gesture is truly remarkable, as well as the delicately carved hands and feet. The Saviors beard, hair, ribs and muscles are carefully molded; these features turn this small sculpture into a real work of art. The loincloth that covers His waist shows off greatly carved folds with a surprisingly high level of realism. The crowns (thorns and radiant) are made of antique silver; they can be cleaned, but we have chosen to preserve the fine patina created by the trace of time. The figure is connected to the wooden cross by four cast-iron nails that increase the realistic feel of this piece. The nails are rude and rusted, creating a strong contrast with the light-colored and delicate ivory carving. The crosss arms are trimmed by solid-silver pieces with embossed moldings and balls. These pieces also preserve the fine patina that provides the metal with a very special charm. Over Jesuss head we can see the classic scroll with the hand-engraved INRI inscription, also an ivory piece. This extraordinary antique-ivory, wooden and silver crucifix will stand out on any wall for its inherent artistic quality and noble materials. Measurements: Cross: Width: 11.8 in / 19 cm.
