Antique gilt solid silver chalice and paten set in its original storing case, made in France in 1900 and in very good condition. The set stands out for its simple and stylish design and for its amazing condition too. The gilt finish that covers the silver looks shiny and even, while the chalice and the paten are in perfect condition and show no dents or signs of wear. This Eucharistic set comes in its original storing case, the perfect place to preserve both pieces and carry them easily. The chalice shows a neo-gothic-style design, typical of the time (early 20th century). The foot is circular in shape and quite ample, decorated with embossed lanceolate leaves. The leaves start in the stems base and extend over the foot creating a symmetrical pattern, making up a medieval-inspired motif. The rest of the foot is embellished by a delicate engraved grid and at the front we can see a Greek cross inside a circle. Over the foot, the non-engraved stem is adorned with a spherical node divided in wedged sections. At the top of the chalice, the cup is adorned with the same engraved motif as the foot (pointed leaves and a border with a grid). All the chalices parts bear hallmarks. We can see two different ones: the mark for antique French silver (Minerva goddesss profile) and the silversmiths mark, an amphora between the initials TE. At the foot we can also see number 63. On the other hand, the paten is decorated with a fine engraved motif depicting the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God, a symbol of Jesus Christ) surrounded by the Latin inscription PANIS VIVUS AGNUS DEI. The storing case is somewhat worn by the trace of time but still fulfills perfectly its protecting duty. This sober and antique gold-plated solid-silver chalice and paten set is a very special item, as beautiful as stylish. Measurements: Chalice: Foots Width: 5.6 in / 14 cm. Cups Width: 4 in / 10 cm.
