Antique French Chalice in Solid Silver Gilt. France 1900

Antique French Gold-Plated solid-silver chalice accompanied by a matching paten and with engraved inscriptions. Both pieces come from France, where they were made circa 1900. Though being more than one hundred years old, this chalice-and-paten set is in really good condition. The subtle and delicate golden shade that enhances the engravings and the cup is greatly preserved, just like the rest of the silver surface. The engraved inscriptions are perfectly legible and remain as clear and good-looking as when they were originally made. At the chalices foot we can read the following sentence: CALICEM SALUTARIS ACCIPIAM ET NOMEN DOMINI INVOCABO (I take the chalice of Salvation and invoke the Name of the Lord), while the node is decorated with an embossed inscription reading ERGO SUM VITES, VOS PALMITES (I am the vine, you are the branches). On the other hand, the cup is decorated with a fine engraved inscription that reads: HIC EST ENIM CALIX SANGUINIS MEI (This is the chalice of my Blood). The sentences are accompanied by a stylish engraved decoration composed of symmetrical motifs and borders, simple and sober. At the chalices foot we can also see a hand-engraved Latin cross with the Greek letters Alpha and Omega (beginning and end) hanging from its arms. The paten is embellished with a central motif depicting a Greek cross surrounded of symmetrical classic-inspired elements. Both this piece and the chalice preserve the original hallmarks in fine condition.
