Antique solid-silver chalice made in the Napoleon era, made between 1803 and 1809 according to the hallmarks that we can see in different parts of the piece. The chalice shows off a stylized and elegant design and comes with a paten, also made of solid silver and with hallmarks. The chalices foot is circular and ample, decorated with hand-engraved motifs: we can see three symbols of the Christian liturgy: the cross in the Calvary, the wheat stalks and the grapes of bunches. They are all surrounded by delicate garlands of leaves. The stems nodes are embellished with engravings too: the central node is decorated with wheat stalks and reeds (which symbolize the People of God who drink from the waters of Jesus Christ). The cup is lean and bears no decoration at all, only the hallmarks that guarantee the quality of the noble metal. There are a number of these marks repeated all over the piece: inside the chalices foot we can see one depicting a womans face and the letter P which indicates it was made in Paris. Beside it we can see the silversmiths mark with the letters JFM. On the other hand, the hallmark with a rooster and number 1 means that the piece was made between 1803 and 1809, in the Napoleon era. The gold-plated silver paten is decorated with a simple engraved Greek cross. This antique solid-silver chalice from the Napoleon era is an exclusive and special piece worthy of belonging to the best collection of religious antiques.
