Gorgeous antique neo-gothic gold-plated solid-silver chalice, with silver paten and coming from France. This fine set was made circa 1900 so today it is more than one hundred years old. Though, the chalice is wonderfully preserved: the engraved and embossed decoration is almost flawless and the hallmarks are clearly visible. The piece boasts a fine neo-gothic design; this style was quite trendy in those times, reproducing the medieval taste. The result is a balanced and sober piece with a nice decorative touch. The chalices foot is lobed and bears six engraved medallions. Three of them contain abstract motifs and the other three are decorated with two-letter acronyms. One shows letters SJ (Saint Joseph), another contains the letters SM (Saint Mary) and the last one shows letters ISH (an acronym of Jesus Christs Greek name). The three of them make up the Sacred Family, a common subject in the decoration of many antique chalices. The stem and the cups base are decorated with medieval-style outlines and pointed arches. The paten is a lovely gold-plated silver piece; though we cannot be sure of it being the one that originally accompanied the chalice, it is a really fine item. It bears an engraved Angus Dei (Lamb of God, symbol of Jesus) surrounded of medieval decorative motifs. Both the chalice and the paten bear contrasts that testify for their quality and ancient age. This amazing antique neo-gothic gold-plated solid-silver chalice stands out for its stylish and sober look. Measurements: Chalice: Foots Width: 14 cm. Height: 22 cm. Cups Width: 9.3 cm.
