Antique solid silver chalice made circa 1930 with an ancient French paten dated circa 1900. The chalices hallmarks are somewhat worn, but we think it could have been manufactured in Spain. The patens marks are better preserved and make it possible to tell it was made in France in the early 20th century. Both pieces are in great condition. The chalice shows off an art deco design, consistent with the taste of the time. It is a simple, sturdy and austere item. The chalices foot is ample and octagonal in shape. It is the only part of this item which bears an embossed decoration. The surface of the foot and the lower part of the stem has been adorned with a dotted pattern. At the foot, every section contains an embossed element: we can see the capital letters ADGM interspersed with four symbols. They are images of the wheat stalks and grapes (symbols of the Eucharistic bread and wine), the Crismon (symbol of Jesus Christ flanked by the Greek letters alpha and omega) and the Lamb of God standing on the Bible. The node bears an only central bulb-shaped node, divided in octagonal sections. Over this element stands the cup, made of lean solid silver. The inner gold-plated finish is wonderfully preserved. Together with the chalice we find a delicate paten, an antique piece also in very good condition. The only decoration of the paten is a schematic and simple hand-engraved Greek cross. At the edge we can see two hallmarks, the one for antique French silver (the profile of Minerva goddess) and the silversmiths mark. This antique solid-silver chalice with French paten will stand out in the best collection of religious silver pieces. Measurements: Chalice: Foots Width: 5 in / 12.5 cm. Height: 5 in / 17 cm.
