Antique solid-silver chalice and paten made in France in the 19th century. Both pieces are in excellent condition and stand out for their quality and remarkable beauty. All the chalices parts are made of high-end silver, just like the paten. They both bear antique hallmarks that testify for their origin and quality. The chalice boasts a noble and stately design, with all its surface covered by embossed and hand-engraved motifs. The images are performed with high attention to detail and are elegant and delicate, turning the chalice into an exceptional item. The chalices ample foot has a wavy border and is divided in three sections. Each section depicts a particular scene of the New Testament: the Crucifixion, The Fourth Station of the Via Crucis (when Jesus meets his Mother, Mary) and the Prayer of the Orchard, the moment when Jesus Christ pronounces his famous words: Father, take this chalice away from me. The scenes are separated by embossed motifs depicting bunches of grapes, symbolizing the Eucharistic wine. Over the foot the stem has three nodes: the main one is embellished with bunches of grapes, wheat stalks and reeds, while the secondary nodes are adorned with abstract symmetrical motifs. The gold-plated silver cup stands on a gorgeous base composed of engraved motifs. The three medals that make up the base contain images of the three Theological Virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity, impersonated by female figures holding the corresponding attributes. The paten that comes with the chalice bears the hallmark for antique French silver and the silversmiths mark close to its edge. For its great beauty and amazing condition, this antique solid-silver chalice and paten will shine in any collection or stance. Dimensions: Chalice: Foots Width: 5.8 in / 14.5 cm.
