Very antique solid-silver and silver-plated metal chalice made in Lyon, France between 1819 and 1938. It comes with a silver paten, a little older than the chalice (between 1809 and 1819), also made in some French province other than Paris. The chalice comes with its storing case; it is not the original one as it is slightly small for the article, but it is enough to store the chalice and the paten for their protection and transport. This religious silverwork set is a gorgeous and elegant item, with a timeless and stylish design and hand-engraved decoration. Both pieces are in fine condition though being nearly 200 years old. The chalice boasts a stylized and attractive look. It has an ample circular foot decorated with a simple border of floral motifs and symmetrical wheat stalks at the center. There is also a cross at a desert landscape that marks the front part of the item, a typical symbol in this kind of pieces. The stem has a main tapered node adorned with simple symmetrical vegetal-inspired motifs, schematic and fine. It has secondary nodes on top and at the bottom. The cup that stands on the stem is made of lean silver and bears no decoration at all. Near the cups edge we can see the hallmarks that indicate the year of manufacture and the place, the province of Lyon. The paten is made of gold-plated silver, bears no decoration and remains in good condition. It also bears three hallmarks corresponding to the year of manufacture, the place and the silversmith. The case where the two pieces can be stored is somewhat worn by the trace of time and the use, but it still fulfills perfectly its duty. This antique solid-silver and silver-plated metal chalice will shine in any collection or showcase for its sober look, elegance and attractive design.
