Antique gold-plated metal and brass chalice, probably Spanish, made in the early 20th century. This is a rare and original piece, entirely made of gold-plated metal except for the cup. This part is made of brass and is in fine condition, though it is slightly bent. Though, the chalice is still a very attractive piece because of the profusion of hand-embossed and carved motifs that cover it. The motifs are partially gold-plated; this technique makes the symbols and images stand out and provides the chalice with a powerful and attractive presence. The ample foot is decorated with cherubs heads and ecclesiastic symbols, including the papal attributes and a pipe organ. The node that decorates the stem is adorned with the same embossed cherubs and fruits that we can see at the foot, between the ecclesiastic symbols. The gold-plated finish only covers the background lean parts which show no images or motifs, aiming to enhance them. On the other side, the cups base shows the same winged heads; in this case, the angels hold garlands which are connected to the fruit images. The rest is composed of gold-plated volutes, baroque an elegant. The cup itself is made of lean brass and remains in great condition. This antique gold-plated metal and brass chalice, probably Spanish, is bound to stand out in a good collection of old-time religious artworks. Dimensions: Foots Width: 4.92 in / 12.5 cm.
