Antique neo gothic chalice and paten made of gilded silver and metal. This fine set comes from Spain and was made in 1898, remaining in good condition. The chalice has been acid-tested by my silversith and now we know that the cup is made of 925 solid silver, the stem and the node are bronze and the foot is made of silver but not 925, but lower in proportion. There are no hallmarks because in Spain, silver pieces are only marked if the whole piece is made of 925 silver and not if it is only partially made of this material. The paten is French and is made of solid silver; near the edge we can see the corresponding hallmark (a profile of Minerva goddess). It is decorated with a simple hand-engraved HIS acronym with a cross. The chalices foot is adorned with fine embossed schematic symmetrical flowers. Engraved at the edge we can see the following inscription: Recuerdo de T. M. a Don Isidro Gonzalbo, presbítero en su primera misa 18 de abril de 1898 (In memory from T.M. to Don Isidro Gonzalbo, presbyter, in his first mass April 18th, 1898). The central node bears the embossed letters of the name JESUS distributed in its six arms and separated by Greek crosses. The lean silver cup fits into a beautiful sub-cup with a fine openwork decoration. This part depicts the same motif as the chalices foot, creating a lovely trellis of flowers, stems and leaves. This fine antique neo gothic chalice and paten made of gold-plated silver and metal will stand out in any collection or as part of the belongings of a priest.
