Pretty vintage solid-silver chalice and paten set, made in Spain in the 20th century (circa 1970-80) and in very good condition. This is an original item and bear hallmarks which guarantee the silvers quality. Both pieces boast a fine design in a style which was quite popular in that period. The chalice is a short and compact piece with a clear medieval-inspired design and a fine hammered finish which reflects light in quite a peculiar way. This finish creates a texture which reminds us of water waves, providing the item with a unique and original look. The paten is made of lean silver, with a simple design that matches the chalice. The chalices foot is circular in shape. As it elevates to connect the node, this part acquires a conical stylized design that provides the piece with elegance. At the front side, the foot is adorned with a hand-engraved cross inserted into a circle and decorated with volutes. This detail is the only decoration of the piece; the rest only shows off the hammered finish stated before. The cups inner surface bears a gilded finish, a detail which commonly adorns quality chalices. If we turn the chalice upside down, inside the foot we will see the silversmiths mark (with the letters AS) and the silver proportion (925). Both marks can also be seen near the cups edge. The paten which comes with the chalice is decorated with the same cross, just bigger in size. Close to the edge it bears the same marks, a detail that provides this set with authenticity and value. This amazing vintage solid-silver chalice and paten set will stand out during the celebration the Eucharist or as part of a good collection of religious silverware.
