Antique solid-silver French chalice and paten set, made in France circa 1900. Both pieces bear hallmarks which testify for their quality and ancient age, remaining also in good condition though being more than one hundred years old. The chalice boasts a simple neo gothic design, stylish and timeless, with hand-engraved decoration and stylized shape. The circular foot is decorated with a motif of long symmetrical leaves which extends to the stem, creating an attractive and fluid connection between the two parts. Between the leaves, the silver is adorned with a diamond pattern; at the front side we can see a simple embossed silver cross. The stem bears two nodes, both with a simple geometrical decoration. The cup is lean and fits into a sub-cup adorned with the same engraved leafs as the foot. Both parts show the silversmiths mark and the hallmark of French antique silver pieces; the latter can also be seen in the paten. This piece shows some slight dents but it is overall in good condition. The embossed decoration that adorns its center depicts the IHS acronym (the initials of Iesus Hominem Salvatur, Jesus Savior of Men) framed by simple volutes. This antique French solid-silver chalice and paten set is a charming and authentic item, with a timeless design that stands out for its elegant quality.
