Antique Gilded Chalice with Diamonds, Rubies, Pearls and Coral. London, England, 1891

Gorgeous antique gilded chalice with diamonds, rubies, pearls and coral, made in England in 1891 and in fine condition. It is a small totally bejeweled piece, probably bound to be used in a private chapel or in travels. The stone decoration is authentic and there is no piece missing. The design includes real diamonds and rubies, accompanied by fine real pearls and a big piece of carved coral at the foot. The stones stand out on the shiny gold-plated finish, in very good condition, warm and uniform. The chalice boasts a neo gothic desing which was quite trendy in the late 19th century. The lobed base has different embellishments sin each one of its sections. At the front side we can see a beautiful embossed crucifix framed by three diamonds. The rest of the foot bears silver crosses, circles and rectangles full of pearls and rubies. One of the rectangles contains the coral piece, with a great orange color and carved with a geometric design. The stem also bears embedded diamonds and pearls; the node is decorated with hand-engraved motifs and pearls too. The chalices cup is entirely uniform and does not include the typical sub-cup which usually adorns these pieces. It is stylized in shape and its simple design makes a great contrast with the rich decoration of the rest of the item. Again at the chalices foot, if we look inside this part we will see a series of hallmarks (four in all). There is a capital Q letter which indicates it was made in 1892, a leopards face (the symbol of sterling silver), a rampant lion (the hallmark of English silver pieces made in London) and the silversmiths mark with the letters LG.
