Very antique French solid-silver chalice, made in Paris, France between 1819 and 1838 and with paten. The chalice is a beautiful item with a stylized design, typical of the time, and in excellent condition. The circular foot is decorated with three images: a radiant cross in an austere landscape, wheat stalks and bunches of grapes in the vine (symbols of the Eucharistic bread and wine). The motifs are separated by engraved scallops, very simple and symmetrical. The stem bears two nodes: a secondary node adorned with engraved leaves and a main node on top. The main node bears the same engraved symbols as the foot, but in this case instead of the cross there is a group of reeds, symbol of the People of God. The subcup is embellished with the same motifs, including the scallops at the foot. The cup and the foot bear different hallmarks: one of antique French silver and the silversmiths mark. The paten was made later, at the late 19th century; simple and elegant, it bears its own hallmarks and the hand-engraved acronym IHS, which stands for the Greek name of Jesus Christ, inside a lobed frame. Any lover of sacred silversmith and ancient art will appreciate the elegance and quality of this antique French solid-silver chalice, a beautiful piece original of the time.
